Have you ever wondered how much planning and coordination it takes to roll out a car from a car manufacturer’s assembly line? A typical automobile consists of thousands of parts sourced from hundreds of suppliers, and a manufacturing and assembly process that consists of dozens of steps. All these different pieces need to tie-in in an extremely well synchronized manner to realize the end product. How is this achieved? Well, like most complex business challenges, this too is addressed by a combination of efficient business processes and Information Technology. The specific discipline of software that addresses these types of problems is known as “Supply Chain Management” (SCM).
SAP APO (Advanced Planning and Optimizer) solution is the planning component within the SAP SCM solution. It offers planning and optimization functionalities in different business processes of Demand Planning (DP), Supply Network Planning (SNP), Supply and Demand Matching, Production Planning Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS), Global Available to Promise (GATP) and Transportation & Vehicle Scheduling (TPVS). Collaboration with Suppliers and Customers is also possible through newer application Supply Network Collaboration (SNC). From SCM 5.0 ongoing a new set of functionalities under Services Parts Planning (SPP) and Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) were added specifically catering to Spare Parts Management.
With this solution you can improve your company’s real-time visibility and predictability in your company’s supply chain.
In our first part of SCM seminars we introduce you the planning modules DP, SNP and PP/DS and show you a case study of a SCM implementation.
